Peggy Sue are set to release an album of material inspired by cult film ‘Scorpio Rising’.
‘Scorpio Rising’ retains an alluring enigma. Directed by Kenneth Anger, the film has sparked numerous myths with the score featuring a number of then-current rock ‘n’ roll classics.
Now Peggy Sue have crafted an alternative soundtrack. We’ll let the band explain…
“In Spring 2011 we (Peggy Sue) were invited to perform a live soundtrack to a film at a temporary cinema in Hackney, East London. The film we chose was Kenneth Anger’s 1963 cult classic Scorpio Rising mostly because of its ground breaking Rock & Roll/Doo Wop soundtrack. With no dialogue or captions Anger was one of the first to use pop music to harness and alter the meaning of his images. Scorpio Rising is like a glorious 30 minute music video long before it’s time”.
Playing each of the 12 tracks featured in the original film, the band have now decided to release a full album based on that performance. Only 1000 physical copies will be available, with orders available HERE.
Set to be released as a download on July 23rd, Peggy Sue will toast the album with a one off performance in London. Taking place in a disused WWII bunker, only 50 people will be allowed entry in the tiny performance space.
Tickets go on sale at 10am this morning (June 18th).
