Pearl Jam Confirm Album Plans

Grunge legends set to return

Grunge legends Pearl Jam are due to return with their new studio album ‘Backspacer’ on September 21st.

Pearl Jam were formed from the ashes of several Seattle groups. Singer Eddie Vedder was a veteran of the city’s buoyant underground rock scene, and rapidly emerged as a gifted songwriter.

Releasing their debut album ‘Ten’ in 1991 the band became instant stars. The record was acclaimed as the work of a stunning new voice, catapulting Pearl Jam into the Billboard charts.

However not everyone was impressed. Kurt Cobain was a notorious critic of the band, although Vedder recently claimed that the Nirvana frontman would have appreciated the way Pearl Jam have changed and evolved.

The band announced a series of re-issues in the run up to their 20th anniversary. An expanded version of ‘Ten’ was released earlier this year, with a host of stunning extras added. Each studio album by the group will be re-released, before Pearl Jam complete the series in 2011.

Earlier this year Pearl Jam announced that they are due to head back into the studio with Brendan O’Brien to work on a new album. The pair are old friends, with O’Brien having worked with Pearl Jam on numerous occasions.

However sessions didn’t go as planned. Bass player Jeff Ament was attacked and robbed outside of the studio, leaving the band shocked.

Now complete, Pearl Jam have given their new album the title ‘Backspacer’. Announcing a series of details the band confirmed that they are due to release their comeback single ‘The Fixer’ on August 24th.
