Pavement Reunion Latest

Musicians play wedding bash

Legendary American alt rock dons Pavement recently attended a boozy wedding reception which resulted in several members jamming onstage.

The group ruled the post-grunge landscape like acerbic indie kings. Releasing hugely influential albums such as ‘Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain’ Pavement split in 1999 but have remained on familiar terms.

Lead singer Stephen Malkmus has been the most vocal solo member, releasing several acclaimed LPs under his own name. The group have been dogged with reunion rumours recently, with fans arguing it would be appropriate given it is their 20th anniversary.

At a recent wedding reception several members of the band joined together onstage at Nashville’s 5 Spot venue for a drunken jam, reports the Nashville Scene. Their chosen theme tune? ‘Rock This Party’.

In a recent interview Stephen Malkmus discussed the band’s possible reunion with American magazine Pitchfork.

“Well, I don’t think about it too much. It’s sort of an out-of-sight, out-of-mind type thing. It’s just standard question #10 on the interview circuit…I usually just say ‘No, it’s not happening.’ People say stuff about Pavement, and I say that I’m really honored and proud that a lot of people at the show are into Pavement, and there wouldn’t be as many people there, we wouldn’t have the dialogue, or play the same venues, frankly, if we were just a new band.”

“So I’m happy about it. But I’m into the new thing.”
