British songwriting icon Paul Weller has criticised the users of social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace.
Paul Weller seems to have defied the ageing process. Rumoured to be engaged to his 24 year old backing singer, the Modfather has seemingly boundless energy.
One of the hardest touring performers in British music, Paul Weller recently released his stunning new album ‘Wake Up The Nation’. However the singer matches this with some defiantly ‘old man’ tendencies.
Speaking to The Independent, Paul Weller labelled social networking sites as “bullshit”. Continuing, he slated people who “spend all evening” on such websites.
“Why not go down the pub?” he asked. “A guy once came up to me at a gig and asked me if I had MySpace. I said, ‘This is my space, and you’re invading it’.”
The songwriting icon released celebrated the release of his album ‘Wake Up The Nation’ with a special show in London. One time Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher joined singer onstage, with Paul Weller recently giving his thoughts on the band’s split.
Arguing that the Gallagher brothers were “going through the motions” before the split, Paul Weller added that he didn’t want to talk about it too much.
“I don’t want to talk out of turn because I love Noel and Liam,” he said. “You can see when someone’s not happy. But I guess when you get to that sort of level and there’s big business involved, it’s harder to stop. I think ultimately it’ll be better for music and for their own creativity.”
