British songwriting legend Paul Weller is locked in a chart battle with Australian rockers AC/DC.
It’s Mods vs Rockers all over again! Once upon a time, two British youth tribes fought for supremacy on the streets (and beaches) of our great nation. Now Paul Weller and AC/DC are -re-enacting the rivalry at the top of the charts.
Returning with his new album ‘Wake Up The Nation’ the iconic Mod singer has demonstrated that he is eager to move outside of his comfort zone. Whereas 2008’s ’22 Dreams’ was a lengthy, ambitious work the new album is brief to the point of rudeness.
‘Wake Up The Nation’ contains sixteen tracks yet clocks in at a mere 40 minutes. A dense, angry record it is also one of the most invigorating that Paul Weller has attempted in his solo career to date.
Sparking appearances on radio and television, Paul Weller’s first release since his BRIT award success clearly marks the return of the Modfather as big business.
Currently at number one, Paul Weller is fighting off competition from Australian hard rockers AC/DC. Soundtracking the new ‘Iron Man 2’ film, the band have gathered their hits onto one disc for the first time ever.
Containing music from both eras of the band, the new compilation features both Bon Scott and Brian Johnson. A fantastic introduction to the world of AC/DC it is also a useful retrospective for long term fans.
Currently neck and neck, it looks as though Paul Weller may just shade this modern day battle between Mods and Rockers. However with the weekend sales yet to be counted, anything could happen.
Paul Weller’s new album ‘Wake Up The Nation’ is out now.
