Paul McCartney Leaves EMI

Former Beatle shifts back catalogue

Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney has shifted his back catalogue from EMI to an independent record label.

Leaving The Beatles in 1970, Sir Paul McCartney embarked on a fascinating if sometimes unpopular solo career. Early DIY efforts mixed bubblegum pop with homegrown folk, before the singer formed the hugely successful group Wings.

Later releasing records such as ‘Mull of Kintyre’ ol’ Macca proved that you can’t be right all of the time.

McCartney’s solo discography contains some wonderful records, which have now been switched from EMI to an independent company. Signing a deal with Concord Music Group, the singer intends to shed new light on his solo career.

Previously controlled by the major label, Sir Paul McCartney regained control of the release in February. Covering everything he released from 1970 to 2006, EMI nonetheless remain in control of The Beatles.

“I’m always looking for new ways and opportunities to get my music to people and Concord share this passion,” McCartney said of the deal.

As a result of the deal, Concord are due to re-issue the classic Wings album ‘Band On The Run’. Perhaps the definite release by the under-rated band, the record was initially released in 1973.

Due to be re-issued in August with a raft of bonus material, Sir Paul McCartney promises more unreleased material in the future. Meanwhile, the singer is set to play a series of stadium dates this summer.

EMI have not commented on the move.
