Patti Smith's 'Just Kids' is one of the finest music memoirs of recent times, a book that manages to be wry, emotional, poetic and wise in equal measures.
Showtime have now stepped in to take charge of a television adaptation based on 'Just Kids'. The series will focus on the singer's relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe in addition to exploring her rise as a writer and musician.
The Hollywood Reporter states that Patti Smith is co-writing and co-producing the series alongside ‘Penny Dreadful’ creator John Logan.
Patti Smith said in a statement: "A limited series on Showtime will allow us to explore the characters more deeply, enabling us to develop stories beyond the book and allow a measure of unorthodox presentation. The medium of a television limited series offers narrative freedom and a chance to expand upon the themes of the book."
The pilot episode of 'Just Kids' is due to be broadcast later this year.
