American newcomers Passion Pit are already working on the follow up to their debut album ‘Manners’.
Passion Pit began life as a Valentine’s present. Singer Michael Angelakos wrote a series of songs for his girlfriend, which leaked onto the internet. Becoming a cult sensation, he formed a group to work on more.
Debut album ‘Manners’ saw Passion Pit make good on their early promise, matching MGMT’s otherworldly synth-pop with a sense of wide eyed innocence. Festival favourites, the band even graced the cover of Clash Magazine.
Taking time off, Passion Pit have begun work on their second album. Singer Michael Angelakos has begun writing new material, with a Spring 2011 release date being mooted by the frontman.
“It’s gonna be a really fantastic, exciting, beautiful, gorgeous record,” Angelakos told the NME. “An absolutely beautiful record. I’m so excited.
“We’re aligning it with the Farmers’ Almanac in America, so when the buds start to bloom is when we kind of wanna release it. Like when life starts to come back. We wanna be pretty literal.”
Passion Pit recently returned to the UK in order to perform at V Festival. One of the highlights of the twin site event, the band blasted through elements of ‘Manners’ and debut EP ‘Chunk Of Change’.

Meanwhile, Michael Angelakos also claimed that more than one edition of the album could be released. Refusing to elaborate further, the singer could mean that Passion Pit’s new material could be spread across different formats.
Passion Pit are due to release their second album in Spring 2011.
