American newcomers Passion Pit are due to release their debut album ‘Manners’ on May 18th.
Some bands form around an ad in a music shop, while some go down a slightly different route. Needing something to give his girlfriend for Valentine’s, Michael Angelakos got some friends together and wrote an EP.
Given to his girlfiend and a handful of other people, that EP became ‘Chunk Of Change’ – a massive hit on blogs across the web. A striking mixture of sunshine pop, the group were so excited by their success that Passion Pit was formed.
Recently selling out the historic Bowery Ballroom in New York, Passion Pit’s success has already been beyond their wildest dreams. The band’s debut album was recorded in a two month burst, with each song being written by on the cuff.
Produced by Chris Zane, ‘Manners’ is the work of a band – not just Angelakos. With some stunning group work on show, it is clear that there is much more to this band than mere web hype.
