Parsnip Share ‘The Babble’, And UK Tour Dates

It's their first ever British jaunt...

Melbourne group Parsnip have shared new single ‘The Babble’.

The band’s DIY ethics allows them to stretch songs in any direction they wish; free-wheeling creativity, their new album ‘Behold’ seemed to exist in a world of its own.

Out now via Upset The Rhythm, the record lifts from post-punk mess-thetics but has a pleasingly pop-centric touch. Open and melodic, their approach is exemplified by new single ‘The Babble’ which has a neat, mid 60s psych feel.

In a note, the band’s Stella Rennex comments that “I wanted ‘The Babble’ to sound like a ‘Dead End Street’ style Kinks song. However a few people have commented that it sounds like a Dandy Warhols riff which I don’t mind because I am a fan. I also asked Mikey to take it in the direction of the outro of ‘7 and 7 Is’ by Love and he did a great job, the explosion preceding a little ditty played inside a tin can floating out to sea.”

The full video is online now, alongside plans for Parsnip’s first ever UK tour. Opening in London on October 1st, they play Leeds, Nottingham, and Brighton.

Carolyn Hawkins says of the video:

“The video for ‘The Babble’ was filmed in a few locations around Melbourne by our friend Alex McLaren with assistance from Sean McAnulty. We had a very loose plan, and wanted to keep it fairly experimental. Using all kinds of wacky cameras and lenses – some lo-fi, some futuristic – Alex put together a freaky, motion sick, slightly psychotic clip. This is the third video that Alex has shot for us, along with ‘Turn To Love’ and ‘Rip It Off’ (from our first album).”

Tune in now.
