Panda Bear Talks Solo Album

Animal Collective spin off due

Animal Collective member Panda Bear has spoken about his upcoming solo effort.

With the release of their new album Animal Collective has leaped out of the left field and into the mainstream. The former nu-folk darlings have swapped their acoustic guitars for psychedelic freak outs, with ‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’ becoming one of the year’s most celebrated releases.

Bound to feature strongly in those ‘end of year’ polls, the album has scooped every accolade going. With new EP ‘Fall Be Kind’ making sizeable waves it seems that Animal Collective can do no wrong.

Now the band’s Panda Bear is set to step into the limelight with the release of his forthcoming solo album.

Following on from a number of acclaimed solo releases, the new album is apparently not based around samples as in his previous work. “The rhythms are really basic and kind of raw and simple and are electronic” he told Pedestrian.

“It’s not live instrumentation, I’ve been playing guitar but I feed it through the same thing that the sequences are on. It’s a very electronic sound and very voice heavy. A simple arrangement of drums, the guitar and singing.”

“Really there are only two or three elements to every song. It’s pretty raw sounding for better for worse. The tone is a lot darker and it sounds sort of dramatic or romantic to me.”

Panda Bear has confirmed a number of European solo shows for next year. The singer is due to play at Barcelona’s epic Primavera Sound event after a number of more intimate dates.

Panda Bear is set to release his new solo album next year.
