Irish composer Paddy Mulcahy has shared new track ‘Angel’s Share’.

The song is the title track of his incoming album, a project that further blurs the lines between modern classical and electronic music. Worth aligning to peers such as Nils Frahm, there’s also an innate Irishness to Paddy’s music, combined with some highly personal messages.

An album that evolved out of grief – Paddy Mulcahy recently lost his father – ‘Angel’s Share’ lands on August 12th, and represents “my way of coping with the 18 months following our loss, whilst handling a career during a global pandemic, and trying to get back to normality.”

A reference to the evaporation of whisky from the barrel during the distilling process, ‘Angel’s Share’ is framed by Celtic flourishes – the drone, the melody so evocative of a tin whistle – and marked by percussion from Myles O’Callaghan.

Discussing the song, Paddy Mulcahy comments: “That phrase is so poignant. It’s a nod to my culture and history, and to the bottle of redbreast whisky I drank from that belonged to my father.”

Accompanied by some beautiful visuals, you can check out the video for ‘Angel’s Share’ below.
