Ou Est Le Swimming Pool have confirmed that they intend to go ahead with the release of their debut album.
One of the most hyped new groups in the country, Ou Est Le Swimming Pool spent the bulk of 2010 touring across Europe. Taking enough time off to complete their debut album, the band were gearing up for its release before a tragic incident at the weekend.
Appearing onstage at Belgium’s Pukkelpop festival frontman Charles Haddon hurled himself into the crowd. Colliding with a young girl, the incident left the audience member requiring medical help.
Cutting the set short Charles Haddon was inconsolable, and later took his own life backstage at the festival. Shocked, Ou Est Le Swimming Pool issued a short statement expressing their sorrow at the loss of their friend.
Amongst those who paid tribute to the singer was La Roux singer Elly Jackson, who dedicated the band’s set at V Festival to Charles Haddon.
Speculation had begun as to what Ou Est Le Swimming Pool would do with their recordings. Now it seems that the band intend to release their debut album, partly as a memorial to their lost singer.
Issuing a statement to fans, the remaining members explained that after consulting the family of Charles Haddon they had decided to go ahead with the release as scheduled. In further accordance with the family’s wishes, the planned single release of ‘The Key’ will go ahead on October 10th.
Remaining band members Joe Hutchinson and Caan Capan have also thanked fans for the support being shown to them at a difficult time. Continuing, the musicians have asked that their privacy now be respected whilst they take some time away.
Ou Est Le Swimming Pool will release their debut album ‘The Golden Year’ on October 3rd. The single release of ‘The Key’ is planned for October 10th.
