Oscar Jerome has shared his new single ‘Desert Belly’.
The songwriter is on the march creatively, with recent single ‘Easier’ ending a period of silence. Working with alacrity, Oscar is compiling the follow-up to his excellent 2022 record ‘The Spoon’, and another dose of fresh audio is online now.
Available on streaming, ‘Desert Belly’ actually began as a sketch, with Oscar sampling one of his own recordings. Using this as a framework, the song becomes a full circle moment, a place of self-analysis while also longing for warmer days.
Soft and soulful, there’s a delicacy to Oscar’s approach which is matched to an assurance, and accuracy.
He explains…
It started off from me sampling the audio from a video of myself playing that I posted on instagram. Something about the roomy guitar sound felt very nostalgic to me. I then built the song around the sample. I wrote the lyrics while looking at a tiny flower growing out of a plant pot in my garden.
It was the first early sign of spring after a pretty depressing winter. It coincided with the starting of a new chapter in my life, time to plant some seeds and watch the flowers grow. I was longing for warmer days and wanted to give the feeling of trekking through a desert on an alien planet. The synths helped to bring a sci-fi-esque feel to it.
Tune in now.
