Legendary Scottish indie group Orange Juice are set to reform and will play their first re-union show next month, it has been announced.
The band formed in Glasgow in the late 70s, and although energized by punk had grown weary of the stale British music scene. Their unique blend of 60s pop, disco and punk became a chart sensation, resulting in the massive hit single ‘Rip It Up’. Lead singer Edwyn Collins self-effacing nature became the blueprint for many indie stars, while their early, scratchy sound inspired bands across the world.
The band have recently seen an upsurge in public acclaim due to praise from current stars such as Franz Ferdinand.
The band broke up in 1985 after a number of differences. While lead singer Edwyn Collins remained in the popular consciousness the other band members have drifted out of view. Guitarist James Kirk became a chiropodist, drummer Steven Daly became a journalist while bass player David McLymont emigrated to Australia where he eventually wound up touring with Kylie Minogue.
Orange Juice will play their first show together next month at the Nordoff-Robbins awards in Glasgow.
