It’s no secret to the broader spectrum that Irish electronic music is in abundantly rude health.
When we talk about this we seem to discuss only the big cities that belong to the island. Your Dublin’s and Belfast’s… We rarely get a glimpse into the smaller, neighbouring towns when it comes to media coverage. Unfair, really, when you look at the wonderful work that is coming out of Galway, Cork and Sligo.
Enter Bangor, enter Born Sleepy. Bangor is a small coastal town; about fifteen minutes drive from Belfast. The label is looked after by Optmst, its founder, and focuses on showcasing the individuality of electronic artists, both north and south of the border, whilst uniting under a mutual, dreamy aesthetic.
Waves In Motion is the label’s debut release and features work from a plethora of stimulating Irish artists, including Brien, R.Kitt, Wallabee and Fourth Mind.
Optmst’s ‘Wabi Sabi’ is a wonderful introduction into Born Sleepy’s atmospheric world. Soft pads, scattered drum patterns and the chimes of an introspective organ blend in an otherworldly sequence, inciting a rush of uprising energy that leaves one in a state of dreamy inspiration.
We've got first play – tune in now.
Waves In Motion will be released on both CD and digital formats on December 28th.
