From Naum Gabo

Optimo Music is set to release a new 12 inch from Naum Gabo which pays tribute to Glasgow.

Running in Glasgow's Sub Club for over a decade, Optimo came to virtually define the city's dance scene. Eclectic, forward thinking and totally unafraid to take risks the weekly Sunday session inspired countless bands, producer and DJs.

Deeply entwined with Glasgow, Optimo decided to take time off last year to focus on other activities. Optimo Music label is now set to release a special 12 inch dedicated to their home city of Glasgow.

Naum Gabo are a duo comprised of James Savage and JG Wilkes (one half of Optimo). Previously releasing material simply as Naum, the pair have decided to cover two tracks with Glasgow connections.

The first is a version of 'Theme For Great Cities' by... Simple Minds. Yep, Jim Kerr & Co. used to make some seriously heavy Krautrock vibes, with the original version becoming a mainstay of Optimo's sets.

In a statement Optimo described the track as “an electro-trance-funk classic, pre-dating the rave scene by about 10 years”.

Given a dancefloor friendly treatment, the instrumental sits on the A-side of the new twelve. Naum Gabo have also covered the more obscure 'Wet Job' by the little known new wave quartet Fingerprintz.

In the hands of Naum Gabo the track apparently becomes “a dark disco futuristic grooveride into doom”.

Titled 'Songs From A Great City' the 12 inch is set to be released through Optimo Music on February 14th. The label is gearing up for a busy year, with a vinyl edition of music by Chris Carter also due.
