French songwriter Oklou has shared her new single ‘family and friends’.
Out now, the new single represents her first forward step since a startling mixtape earlier this year. Continually creative, ‘family and friends’ represent Oklou at her most probing, asking profound questions of herself in the process.
Amid the opaque arrangement and gossamer layers of sound, she sings: “Are you even real…?”
The French vocalist – born Marylou Mayniel – signals the start of something new, with ‘family and friends’ affording her space for expression.
She comments…
“‘family and friends’ feels like a battle almost. where I’d be searching for answers to unstated questions, escaping from something intangible, invisible. A memory? Maybe I like the idea that I’d be running away from something, and I’m looking for good reasons to run. Maybe I just like that.”
