Okay Kaya Sweeps Back Into View With ‘The Groke’

A remarkable new single...

Norwegian-American auteur Okay Kaya has shared remarkable new single ‘The Groke’.

Out now, the single is her first independent release since Okay Kaya’s album ‘Both’, and continues her singular path. Written during the wintery months of early 2024, sessions found the singer ensconced on a tiny island, the temperature lingering around -25 Celsius.

Tapping into her surroundings, ‘The Groke’ allows Okay Kaya space to discuss the ever-changing landscapes of our eco-systems. Winding together alt-pop, R&B, and Nordic mythology, the single is a truly unique piece of songwriting.

Okay Kaya comments…

“I was thinking about The Groke as an apt lore of the Nordic countries brutal seasons, and about how climates around the world are getting more temperamental. The chorus end sentence is borrowed from Timothy Morton’s Dark Ecology”.

Julia Patey directs the thrilling video, and the film maker comments:

“Our goal was to create a unique cinematic translation of the music, without using any visual references to guide us. So we wandered together blindly into the unknown and this was the result”.

Tune in now.
