Former Oasis guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs has stated that he thinks the band should have split after Knebworth.
The ex-bandmate of the Gallagher brothers, said he thought the seminal band should have bowed out after the famous 1996 gig, where they played over two night to 250,000 fans.
Speaking to Oasis fansite Stopcryingyourheartout, Arthurs said: “I think we should have done Knebworth and on that second night we should have all taken a bow and said, ‘thank you and good night, we were Oasis’.”
The Mancunian band formed in 1991, with Noel Gallagher only joining the original line-up later on. After nearly 20 years, Oasis finally called it a day on 28 August 2009 after a rumoured fight broke out between the Gallagher brothers, minutes before they were due to go on stage in Paris.
Paul Arthurs continued to talk about his feelings surrounding Oasis by stating: “We should have bowed out but we didn’t, we carried on. It was a bit of a struggle after Knebworth, to go over to America and play for a few thousand people.”
Oasis quickly rose to fame after the global success of their 1994 début album ‘Definitely Maybe’ with the album later going on to sell 7.5 million copies worldwide. Arthurs departed the band in 1999, with the band releasing a further three albums without him.
An Oasis singles collection ‘Time Flies…1994-2009’ is due for release on 14 June.
