Oasis guitarist and full-time wind up artist Noel Gallagher has claimed in a new interview that fellow UK giants Radiohead haven’t evolved musically since ‘Kid A’.
Gallagher was interviewed by Zagreb-based radio station Plavi recenlty, when he was asked about the Oxford group. The two acts dominated the British music scene in the 90s, and are often seen as being polar opposites – despite filling the same stadiums.
“The biggest criticism that the music press have against us (Oasis) is that we’re not Radiohead,” Gallagher said.
“Correct me if I’m wrong, they’ve been making the same record since ‘Kid A’, have they not?”
Gallagher remains a fan of the band, however. “I like them. Every time I see them live they blow me away, but you know, it’s kind of we make very accessible rock and roll music and they constantly make difficult electronic records.”
Further on in the interview Gallagher revealed that the band don’t spend much time planning their albums. “It’s not a conscious thing where we’re like, ‘right, we must write something avant-garde here’. If it happens naturally then we’ll do it. If it doesn’t then we won’t. We do like sitting around strumming acoustic guitars.”
