Novelist has made his return with carseat banger ‘Don’t Wake Me.’
Now leaning towards the sample-heavy tropes of R&B, producers JLSXND7RS and MOJZYO fuse the heavier tempos of drill. Channeling noughties nostalgia whilst sounding all the more fresh, the well-versed wordsmith layers quickfire rhymes and flows.
The Lewisham native, furthermore once deputy young mayor, has long been the favourite rapper’s top pick. Shortlisted for the Mercury Prize with 2018’s debut album ‘Novelist Guy,’ the MC has consistently set pace across grime, earning his accolades across international audiences. This year’s EP ‘4 THA HOMIEZ’ pays homage to the 80s with big synths and throwback drums, pushing for the more experimental strands of rap.
‘Don’t Wake Me’ sees Kwadwo Kankam cruising around his local neighbourhood, sporting his signature ‘MMM Yeh’ bomber jacket. Lyrically, the single celebrates a triumphant moment in the rapper’s career, reminiscing on the early antics that painted his come up.
As ever, Novelist continues to assert his artistic flare, building a discography that stands for longevity.
Tune in now.
