Mixing the finest of entertainment cocktails, the Smirnoff Electric Cabaret returns to Glasgow on April 17th, furthering its mission to blend the spiciest ingredients, shake them all up and see what happens. The Electric Cabaret isn’t just another gig, it’s a genuine one-off happening, a sort of audio-visual experiment as cutting-edge performers from various disciplines come together under the shared umbrella of fun.
April’s event, which takes place at the Glasgow ABC, is blessed with a suitably eclectic line-up, most of which we’re unable to reveal at time of writing, unfortunately (but hop over to the link below for a full update). We do know that one of the featured bands will be Maximo Park, performing an exclusive collaboration with another as-yet-unnamed artist, in a “DJ-led” fashion. All very intriguing.
If previous events are any indication it should be quite an evening, whoever the mysterious participants may be. Last year’s two Glasgow bashes featured The Go! Team and Guillemots joined by DJs, beatboxers, burlesque dancers and Bruce Airhead, the chap who disappears inside an enormous balloon then reappears as Elvis.
Meanwhile their most recent UK event, at London’s Koko in November, featured OK Go flashing up slogans on LED jackets, Kissy Sell Out with his own private breakdancer, the requisite array of eye-opening cabaret acts, and even some innovative methods for serving drinks. Guests were invited to select a tipple via scent, using specially designed ‘snifters,’ while a hidden bar slowly revealed itself as the night wore on.
Expect similar high-jinks on the 17th. Tickets are available from www.abcglasgow.com.
