Former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher is among the big names set to take part in a new World Cup campaign.
It’s almost here. After four years of patiently waiting, football fans across the globe will be able to feast on the World Cup. However beyond this, a campaign to bring the tournament to England is ongoing.
The country has only held the tournament once – back in 1966 – and is aiming to host the competition again in 2018. A campaign to win the World Cup has been launched, starring some familiar faces.
Former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher is set to film an 18 second video explaining why he believes England should host the World Cup. A famous football fan, the songwriter recently revealed his favourite world cup anthem.
Choosing New Order’s ‘World In Motion’ he told the BBC that he knew for a fact that the Manchester icons had the song lying around, and simply pegged some new words on top of the backing track.
In the new advert, created by Umbro, Noel Gallagher tells the ‘I’m In’ campaign that he wants the World Cup to come to England. “I think it’s a travesty that in the whole history of that competition we’ve only had it once,” Gallagher says in his video.
“It would bring the country together and the final will be just round the corner from my house!”
A huge Manchester City fan, Noel Gallagher attended the World Cup final in 2006 which saw Italy win on penalties. A close friend of footballer Alessandro Del Piero, the guitarist was told to wear the same clothes throughout the tournament by the superstitious Italian midfielder.
Other famous faces taking part in the campaign include Clint Boon, Trevor Nelson, Michael Owen, Fatboy Slim and more.
