Noel Gallagher Just Called Matty Healy A “Slack-Jawed F*ckwit”

“He needs to go over how shit his band is and split up.”

Noel Gallagher has a few choice words for Matty Healy in a new interview.

The Oasis legend isn’t exactly known for holding back on his opinions, and while we’re not about to start running commentary on his likes and dislikes – the latter seem more prevalent, to be honest – we can’t resist reporting on his latest jibe.

Matty Healy drew his ire, having waded into the age-old row over whether Oasis should reform or not. Chatting on Q With Tom Power, the 1975 frontman asked people to imagine you could be a member of “the coolest band in the world… and not doing it cos you’re in a mard with your brother…”

Shrugging to the camera and sounding audibly annoyed, the singer added: “I can deal with them dressing like they’re in their 20s and being in their 50s… but acting like they’re in their 20s? They need to grow up.”

Continuing, he argued: “There is not one person going to a High Flying Birds gig or a Liam Gallagher gig who would not rather be at an Oasis gig.”

With a flourish, Matty Healy finished: “Do me a favour. Get back together. Stop messing around.”

As it happens, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds are about to release a new album, with ‘Council Skies’ set to arrive on June 2nd. Sitting down with Spin, the songwriter was prodded on Matty Healy’s remarks, commenting: “Oh, that fucking slack-jawed fuckwit. What did he say?”

Reminded of the comments about imagining being in “the coolest band in the world” Noel shot back: “He would never be able to imagine it…”

He then added: “He needs to get over how shit his band is and split up.”
