Nirvana Prepare Expanded ‘Nevermind’

For 20th anniversary celebrations

Seminal Nirvana album ‘Nevermind’ is set to be re-mastered in time for it’s 20th anniversary.

Viewed in retrospect, the success of ‘Nevermind’ is perhaps an inevitability. ‘Alt rock’ – as it was termed – had been bubbling under for years, with more and more label pressure being exerted on the scene.

However the shock that the album generated cannot be under-estimated. Nirvana’s second album, ‘Nevermind’ smashed into the charts and knocked none other than Michael Jackson off the number one slot.

Turning Nirvana into icons, the album has to date sold more thirty million copies around the world. Remaining a touchstone for anyone with an interest in raw, vital rock music ‘Nevermind’ has lost none of its thrill. Set to turn 20 years old later this year, the album is set to be re-mastered and given a new lease of life.

The ‘Super Deluxe Edition’ will drop on September 19th, containing a total of four CDs and one DVD. The full tracklisting has yet to be announced, although Nirvana still have plenty of rarities available.

For Record Store Day this year a tour release from 1992 was re-issued on vinyl, while there are plenty of scattered B-sides and radio sessions still not widely available to fans.

Available on September 19th, the full package will apparently include “previously unreleased tracks, rarities, b-sides, BBC radio appearances, alternative mixes, rare live recordings and an unreleased concert in its entirety on DVD.”

A tantalising prospect.

The 20th anniversary of ‘Nevermind’ is due to marked throughout the course of 2011, with a number of events and special releases planned.

‘Nevermind’ will be re-issued on September 19th.
