Record Store Day release planned

Rare Nirvana EP 'Hormoaning' is set to gain a full re-issue for Record Store Day.

Despite their massive fame, Nirvana's back catalogue contains some hard to get items. Those early singles now gain enormous prices on eBay, while foreign and limited pressings are also collectable.

Released in Australia, 'Hormoaning' was designed to coincide with a tour Down Under. Nirvana planned to surprise fans, and sold the limited edition EP on dates across the 1992 Australian tour.

The five track EP collected covers and a special John Peel session. Mixing original material with old favourites, the 'Hormoaning' EP was a special gift that has gone on to become a cult collector's item.

Released soon after the breakthrough which was 'Nevermind' it finds the band on laid back form. Choosing to cover a few of their favourite tracks, Nirvana opt for material by DEVO, The Wipers and Scottish indie group The Vaselines.

Kurt Cobain was of course a famous advocate of The Vaselines, and later covered two of their tracks on MTV Unplugged. Alongside the covers fans will get Peel Session renditions of 'Aneurysm' and 'Even In His Youth'.

Collected on the rarities collection 'Incesticide' 'Aneursym' remains a real fans favourite. Long bootlegged, the alternate version from the Peel Session is a powerful run through of a real Nirvana classic.

Containing five tracks, the 'Hormoaning' EP will be kept to a limited pressing. Only 6000 copies will be available, with the EP set to be released to coincide with Record Store Day.

Meanwhile, one time Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl is preparing his own release for Record Store Day. Foo Fighters have recorded a collection of covers, which will be available in a limited edition pressing on April 16th.
