Night Slugs Launch Compilation

UK bass label confirms release

Much hyped UK bass imprint Night Slugs are set to release their first compilation later this month.

The rise of UK funky has seen the genre splinter in new micro-scenes. Bass music has swapped techno’s drive for house euphoria, producing some remarkable new sounds over the past 18 months.

At the forefront of the UK Funky scene is the Night Slugs imprint. Rising out of an acclaimed club-night, the label was founded by fast rising producers Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990 after they began to feel that bass music was becoming complacent.

Supporting new talent, Night Slugs has released a steady stream of acclaimed 12 inches. Aside from Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990’s own productions, the label has released cuts such as Girl Unit’s ‘Wut’ – one of UK Funky’s core texts.

Now a new compilation aims to gather up some of the loose ends. ‘Night Slights Allstars Vol. 1’ is due to be released later month, and includes some rare cuts alongside some influential material.

Opening with Mosca’s ‘Square One VIP’ the album epitomises Night Slugs approach. Fast and furious, the UK Funky sound is loud and energetic, moving away from the sub-bass menace of dubstep.

Elsewhere on the new album, L-Vis 1990 teams up with T Williams on ‘Stand Up’ while newcomer Optimum contributes ‘Broken Embrace’. With only a few releases behind him, Optimum has already created a stir with the producer launching his own label recently with Hyperdub talent Ikonika.

Ending with ‘Wut’ the album is a fantastic summation of Night Slugs, a label which achieved so much in just over a year. Available on CD and digital download, there has been no confirmation of a vinyl release.

Night Slugs are due to release Night Slights Allstars Vol.1 on November 29th.
