Nicolas Jaar’s debut album ‘Space Is Only Noise’ is set to be re-pressed without ‘I Got A’.
Released earlier this year, Nicolas Jaar’s debut album ‘Space Is Only Noise’ made an immediate impact. Emerging from the techno scene, Jaar’s use of distorted samples gave him a very unique identity.
Immediately influential, Nicolas Jaar has spawned imitators and won critical acclaim. Now, though, it seems that his debut album will have to be altered due to the inclusion of an un-cleared sample.
According to his label, ‘I Got A’ contains a sample from Ray Charles. Clearance was requested in late 2010, but due to difficulties a verdict was no delivered until after the release.
Sadly, the request has been turned down meaning that ‘I Got A’ will be removed from any further editions of ‘Space Is Only Noise’. The ruling will mainly effect the digital release, which will be swapped over immediately.
Pleasingly, the physical edition of ‘Space Is Only Noise’ has already sold out. Another pressing is in the works, which will be released later this year – sans ‘I Got A’.
