Brooklyn trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs are back with their new album ‘It’s Blitz’ – which seems suspiciously short of guitars.
It’s been a long time coming, but Yeah Yeah Yeahs are back. The group last released a full length album with 2006’s ‘Show Your Bones’ and the last sign of any activity was the ‘Is Is’ EP – released two full years ago.
The band regrouped for sessions with renowned producer Dave Sitek. The TV On The Radio mainman took the band into his Stay Gold studio to work on tracks, and the resulting material is some of the group’s most adventurous to date.
Notoriously, the album leaked onto the internet forcing the band to bring the release date forward. Fans who have caught an early, illicit, glimpse of the album have been talking about one thing – the lack of guitars.
In a new interview Nick Zinner reveals this was not his decision. “I was pushed into it,” he told the NME. “We were working with Dave (Sitek, producer), and his thing is to rip up what you know. It’s a good attitude for musicians.”
However Zinner added that he didn’t take much persuading. “On the one hand I was very much encouraged to move on,” he said. “But on the other I was open to trying something new.”
Yeah Yeah Yeahs release their new album ‘It’s Blitz’ on March 16th.
