Iconic American pre-punk group New York Dolls have revealed details of their forthcoming album ‘Cause I Sez So’.
Formed in the early 70s, the New York Dolls would become one of the most influential groups of all time. Taking the Rolling Stones’ sense of danger and blending it with the gender bending style of glam, the band inadvertently set the template for a generation of punk groups.
Mick Jones of The Clash was a fan, while Morrissey once founded the British division of their fan club. In fact, the former Smiths singer is such a fan he once wrote a biography on the band, and persuaded them to reform after the Millennium.
The forthcoming album reunites the band with legendary producer Todd Rundgren, who injected a pop touch to the band’s seminal 1973 debut.
“It was amazing working with Todd again, and I think we were able to evoke the special sound of our first album and drag it by the hair into the present,” frontman David Johansen said in a statement.
New York Dolls have now been reduced to two original members, the band have somehow retained the same sense of drama that made their initial recordings so thrilling.
New York Dolls release ‘Cause I Sez So’ on May 5th in the United States.
