The Official UK Charts Company is to launch new countdowns, aimed at promoting under-the-radar releases and benefitting acts signed to indie labels.
Commencing on June 29 are new Independent Charts for both singles and albums – releases via labels at least 50 per cent owned by a non-major company will be eligible for the charts. Also coming is a new Independent Breakers chart, which will feature bands as-yet not featured on the more mainstream charts.
The Breakers chart will compile releases from act yet to register a ‘proper’ top 20 hit – this would have, according to the Official UK Charts Company, benefitted acts like The Horrors (pictured), Patrick Wolf and Friendly Fires if it’d been launched sooner.
The Official UK Charts Company has compiled music charts in Britain since 1952. Get more information online HERE.
