Radiohead singer Thom Yorke is set to release a special cover version soon, and you can listen to it now!
Thom Yorke is one of the definitive British frontmen. Combining frank and emotive lyrics with a soaring voice, Yorke has been the driving force behind Radiohead – perhaps the most critically praised bands of their generation.
Recently, however, the singer took time out to honour a songwriter whose talent has not matched his public recognition. Mark Mulcahy led Miracle Legion for a decade before scrapping the group.
Later Mulcahy went on to form Polaris, who became the house band for the fondly remembered American TV series ‘The Adventures Of Pete & Pete’. Eventually going solo, perhaps Mark Mulcahy’s most popular moment is crafting the theme song to the TV series – ‘Hey Sandy’.
Recently, however, Mark Mulcahy was dealt a terrible blow. His beloved wife died, leaving the songwriter to raise his young daughter by himself. A number of star names have rallied round, with forthcoming tribute album ‘Caio My Morning Star: The Songs Of Mark Mulcahy’ featuring the likes of Michael Stipe, Frank Black and many more.
Of course, Thom Yorke’s contribution has been a major talking point. The Radiohead frontman has decided to take on Miracle Legion’s ‘All For The Best’ which was originally a salute to Americana.
In Yorke’s hands the song is reduced to sparse instrumentation, with multi-layered wordless moans floating over the backing. A stunning recording, it is Thom Yorke’s first fully solo release since his Mercury nominated album ‘The Eraser’.
The singer seems to be in the mood for working on his own. Thom Yorke recently confirmed a solo set for Latitude, stunning fans who expected Radiohead’s Reading and Leeds appearance to be his only British date of the summer.
Latitude opened this morning (July 17th) with Thom Yorke due to play at 1pm tomorrow.
