New Specials Material

Group have recorded new songs

Reformed 2-Tone legends The Specials have recorded a new track, according to leader Jerry Dammers.

Dammers is controversially not part of the group’s re-union. The creative lynch pin and creative driving force of the band’s original incarnation, he has been engaged in an ongoing row with band members.

However, according to Dammers a previous secret reunion in 2003 resulted in new material. In an interview with Uncut the ska legend reveals the new material begins where the original line up left off.

“My whole thing was starting where ‘Ghost Town’ left off. Rather than the usual reunion thing, which is retrogressive, nostalgic,” he claims.

“Joe Strummer said the reason he didn’t want to get the Clash back together was that it was like an admission that he’d got nothing left to offer. I’m too arrogant to admit I’ve got nothing left to offer!”

“So I wanted to do it in a way where we came back as adults, making adult songs.”

Dammers also revealed that he felt marginalised at group rehearsals, and claims he feels the band never wanted him to be a part of the reformed line up.

The reformed Specials recently announced a massive show in Leeds Millennium Square, capable of holding 7000 people.
