Dark and droning two piece The Big Pink are set to continue their assault on the senses with new single ‘Stop The World’.
The Big Pink make a ferociously loud noise for just two people. Based around Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell, the pair may occasionally collaborate with other musicians but the band essentially revolves around the two of them.
Long term friends, Robbie Furze previously played guitar for Alec Empire. Working with the Berlin based musician immediately after the collapse of seminal outfit Atari Teenage Riot, Furze learned how to construct lengthy noise jams.
Milo Cordell meanwhile has helped launched some of the most innovative groups of recent times via his Merok imprint. Crystal Castles, Titus Andronicus and Klaxons are just a few of the bands who have released a single via the label, which is regarded as one of the most influential independents around.
The Big Pink released their debut single ‘Velvet’ earlier this year. Dark without losing sight of the light at the end of the tunnel, its pulsing groove was matched by Furze’ moody vocals. Self-produced by the band, it precedes the group’s debut album which was recorded in New York late last year.
Using Electric Ladyland studios – constructed by guitar icon Jimi Hendrix – the band seem inspired to take on board classic rock forms and distort them. Well, they are named after an album by The Band, we suppose!
The Big Pink also have a keen ear for the dancefloor, and allowed New York mavericks Gang Gang Dance to rework the single into a seven minute head busting anthem. Released as a free download, the track has gone on to become The Big Pink’s most recognisable release to date.
New single ‘Stop The World’ is due for release in June. Released through their new home of 4AD, the track will be available on download and vinyl formats. Coming equipped with new song ‘Crushed Water’ the single is the latest broadside from one of the year’s most talked about groups.
In addition to this, The Big Pink have also confirmed their biggest UK headline show to date. Due to tread the boards in London’s historic Electric Ballroom in October, by then The Big Pink’s drone euphoria may have found a much deserved bigger audience.
The Big Pink are set to release new single ‘Stop The World’ on June 29th. The band have confirmed the following dates:
