Esben & The Witch guitarist Daniel Copeman has helped launch new label Love Thy Neighbour.
Heady days for Esben & The Witch. The band recently launched their ‘Hexagons’ EP in London, hosting a series of screenings in the setting of The Duke of York’s – the oldest continually operating cinema in the UK.
Now guitarist Daniel Copeman is taking on another project. The musician has teamed up with Brighton gig promoter Andy Rossiter to launch new label Love Thy Neighbour, which will focus solely on EPs.
Amongst the label’s first signings is Abi Wade. Mixing strings to her very natural, unspoilt voice debut EP ‘And Blood and Air’ is set to be launched on November 28th.
The arrangements are fragile, pared down with Abi Wade focussing on her love of the piano. It was the most beautiful instrument I’d ever seen – and, as a child its size gave it a gravitas which I couldn’t ignore” she explains.
Daniel Copeman was immediately spellbound by the material. “The first time I was exposed to Abi’s music I was overcome by an urge to release it, at this point there was no label so the label was started for her pretty much” said the guitarist turned label boss.
“It’s interesting, new and impassioned. The melodies, rhythms and lyrics are all so well considered and enveloping. I am very proud to be releasing this EP”.
