Lead singer with legendary British group The Kinks Ray Davies has claimed that the band are working on a new album in a new interview.
The band split in the mid 90s after more than thirty years of widely celebrated music. From the band’s early garage rock days to the later blossoming of Ray Davies uniquely English songwriting style, The Kinks are regarded by many as one of the finest British groups of all time.
In a new interview with the BBC Ray Davies confirmed that the group are working on new material. “We’ve started a little bit of this and that,” he said. “But it is too early to judge the quality. It depends if there’s good music. We want good new music. I’d like to do it as a more collaborative thing than we used to do.”
The re-union was thought to be on hold until the health of guitarist Dave Davies improves, but his condition must now be strong enough to cope with musical work. Ray Davies would like the album to be a collaborative effort, saying “we’ll see how it works out – a mixture of Snow Patrol and Chuck Berry. It should be an interesting record.”
The Kinks last performed together in 1996.
