A brand new web resource has been launched dedicated to the life of Fela Kuti.
The afrobeat pioneer's legacy will be gathered in one place, with Partisan and Knitting Factory Records working to launch felakuti.com.
Developing in partnership with the Nigerian icon's family, the site aims to be the definitive resource for news on fresh re-issues, new projects, and official merchandise.
Alongside this, the site will boast freshly commissioned editorial, such as a stunning centrepiece history of Fela Kuti's life penned by afrobeat historian Chris May.
Fela’s longtime friend and manager Rikki Stein says of the launch:
"Bringing together such a gifted team of creators to build this ultimate, all-singing, all-dancing tribute to my friend is a source of immense pride and satisfaction. As is always the case with any enterprise involving Fela, it goes above and beyond people simply exercising their professions and becomes a labor of love for all involved."
"Twenty-two years after his passing, this testament illustrates and illuminates the myriad reasons for which Fela Anikulapo Kuti and his works are, ever-increasingly, respected and admired throughout the world. Everybody say: Yeah Yeah!"
To coincide with this, Knitting Factory have prepared a new re-issue of ‘Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and Afrika 70: Music Of Many Colours’.
Capturing some explosive music from Fela Kuti, the album also features jazz-soul pioneer Roy Ayers, who toured alongside Fela Kuti in early 1980.
