6Music presenter Peter Serafinowicz has appeared to suggest that Boards Of Canada are close to completing a new album.
Boards of Canada don’t like to give much away. For almost ten years the band largely refused to give interviews, and when they did come out of the shadows the Scottish duo’s answers created more confusion than they solved.
Silent since the 2006 release of ‘Trans Canada Highway’ EP the pair could be stirring into life. Long time fan Peter Serafinowicz decided to play a classic Boards of Canada track on his 6Music show recently, and seemed to suggest that brand new material from the iconic Warp outfit was on the way.
“I’m gonna play some Board of Canada now. I’m a bit of a Boards of Canada evangelist. They’re my favorite band, I think. Maybe them and The Beatles” he said. (via 2020k)
Continuing, Serafinowicz said: “But, they are a band, again, a bit like The Fall. It’s like once you get into them, or rather, once something clicks you just wanna hear everything they’ve released…They’ve got a new album coming out soon and I think it’s gonna be a double album and I’m so excited, I really am-to hear their new one”.
So is there a new Boards of Canada album on the way? The heart says ‘yes’ but – as is the case with that other Warp recluse Aphex Twin – we’ll believe it when we see it.
Here’s ‘Dayvan Cowboy’.
