Irish songwriter Nell Mescal returns with new single ‘Warm Body’.
The singer’s debut UK headline tour in January was a complete sell out, and she’s building on this moment with her incoming EP. Out on May 3rd, ‘Can I Miss It For A Minute?’ is a tightly curated project, a conceptual song cycle “about growing up, moving away, friendship breakups and trying to navigate between current emotions and negative memories”.
Her new single ‘Warm Body’ finds Nell Mescal caught up in the memories of the past, the soothing melodies yearning for some form of peace. Reminiscent of Lucy Dacus in places, there’s a quiet under-statement to the arrangement.
She sings: “I’ll take a warm body / if I can’t have love / Or I’ll go out drinking / Until I find the one…”
In a note, Nell calls ‘Warm Body’ “a song about struggling to move on from past situations and how that affects making new relationships… It’s about growing up and navigating relationships with the worry that the people you love will leave you”.
