After waiting nearly two decades fans of Neil Young are rejoicing at the news that the songwriter is to finally release his ‘Archives’ project.
Apparently inspired by Bob Dylan’s ‘Bootleg Series’ anthologies, which collate odds and ends from the American bard’s career, the forthcoming Neil Young release gathers some of the rarer and unheard aspects of the singer’s work.
Neil Young began life in celebrated Los Angeles group Buffalo Springfield before heading out on a solo career. Still recording new music, Young is due to release his new album ‘Fork In The Road’ – a concept opera about an electric car no less – later this year.
News of the ‘Archives’ project broke years ago, and the release was initially scheduled for 2008. However due to a number of delays the album has been set back until later this year. As a conference in the SXSW event Young’s manager Elliot Roberts confirmed the news of the release.
Due to hit the shops on June 2nd, ‘Archives’ will be available on Blu-Ray, DVD and CD. The set is apparently due to feature music from throughout the career of the Canadian born songwriter, and will span up to ten (ten!!) discs.
Speaking last year, Young had stipulated that the collection would not be released on CD. It seems he is wrong.
Neil Young will release ‘Archives’ on June 2nd.
