East London-raised musician Nao marks her return with new life-affirming single, ‘Wildflowers’.
Conceptualised whilst Nao was heavily pregnant, ‘Wildflowers’ was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in November 2023, and created with producers Coffee and Detonate. The song emerged from a free-flowing conversation about love, the passage of time, and coming-of-age in your 30s.
“A Wildflower symbolises falling in love; it’s wild, carefree, and you want it to last forever. But life and time have other plans. ‘Wildflowers’ invites listeners to explore the highs and lows of love while embracing vulnerability,” Nao shares.
Nao released her debut album ‘For All We Know’ in 2016, which earned her a BRIT Award nomination for Best British Female Solo Artist. Her 2018 follow-up ‘Saturn’ featured collaborations with Jessie Ware and MØ, and was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize whilst earning Nao another BRIT nomination. In 2021, Nao released her third album, ‘And Then Life Was Beautiful’; the album was nominated for a MOBO Award for Best R&B/Soul and led to collaborations with Stormzy and Mura Masa, and performances at Coachella.
The visual rendering for ‘Wildflowers’ was handled by longtime collaborator Lillie Eiger (Arlo Parks, Florence Welch), with creative direction from SpaceBroth.
More new music from Nao is expected later this year. For now watch the visualizer for ‘Bad Blood’ below.
