Pivotal DJ and broadcaster NAINA has shared her debut single ‘I’d Rather Be Here (Than Anywhere With You)’.
A key figure in London club culture, NAINA has been on our radar for a while. A genial host on radio, she’s also a perceptive DJ, using her platform to open conversations and break new sounds.
Working with Hooversound, NAINA has just released her debut artist single – a crucial moment for her.
Out now, ‘I’d Rather Be Here (Than Anywhere With You)’ rolls with choppy rave breaks, but the twinkling electronic melodies are permeated with a wistful sense of regret.
A song that teases out the push-and-pull of contrary emotions, ‘I’d Rather Be Here (Than Anywhere With You)’ is ultimately built for rave use – this is designed to go off in the dance.
She shares: “Think Prodigy meets fka Twigs meets Prayer…”
Leading into her incoming ‘Survival’ EP, NAINA comments:
This is the first song I made which I knew would be on my debut EP. I wanted to create something atmospheric that builds and builds to a pretty euphoric ending. The track was originally a techno track but the breaks felt so natural to build in and turn into something that really represents me and the young raver in me that would lose my mind on the dancefloor.
I’ve been messing around with production as a hobby for a long time, and it’s always felt so cathartic, a form of release in a way—and this tune is when I started taking it seriously. Combine that with close pals gassing me up, and my brain being less broken, I’m now fully ready for the world to hear what I can do.
Tune in now.
