My First Time’s ‘Wind Up Merchant’ Is A Real Ear-Worm

Hooks galore from the Bristol outfit...

Bristol risers My First Time make their introduction with new single ‘Wind Up Merchant’.

The band have made a buzz in the city with a flurry of key support dates, and the odd one-off party, too. Melding together post-punk aspects with pop suss, My First Time are all awkward right angles, somehow connected to soaring hooks.

Freshly signed to vital tastemaker imprint Submarine Cat Records, new single ‘Wind Up Merchant’ is a superb dose of precocious, tongue-in-cheek songwriting. Reminiscent of those early Elastica singles, it’s a taut, witty piece of indie rock that pummels you into submission while leaving a smile on your face.

Drilling downwards, it taps into your sub-conscious, a ludicrously infectious track that highlights their subversive nature.

“We wanted the song to be ‘tongue in cheek’ – an anti wind-up anthem,” the band explain. “It’s the sort of track you could blast to drown out the ramblings of your annoying sibling or super conservative relative. The track shifts from the perspective of the ‘wind-up merchant’ themselves to the target caught in the crosshair.”

Tune in now.
