My Bloody Valentine Side Project

With Mazzy Star...

News has reached us of a sensational indie team – with Mazzy Star singer Hope Sandoval due to work with My Blood Valentine drummer Colm O’Ciosig.

Hope Sandoval was brought up in a Mexican-American family in Los Angeles. Musical from an early age she began life in a folk group, with her gentle tone and knowledge of roots music evident throughout her career.

Mazzy Star were often heralded as an American equivalent to the shoegaze genre. Influenced by dream pop groups such as the Cocteau Twins the band’s celestial songwriting earned spectacular reviews yet failed to break through to the mainstream.

The group fizzled out in the mid 90s, with Hope Sandoval going on to become an in demand collaborator. The singer has gone on to work with the likes of Massive Attack and Death In Vegas, adding her sighing vocals to the London group’s epic ‘Contino Sessions’ album.

Now keen to work with a group again, Sandoval has formed Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions. Releasing their debut album ‘Bavarian Fruit Bread’ in 2001 and found a ready made cult following.

Continuing in Mazzy Star’s dream pop vein, the band are currently preparing their second album for release. Named ‘Through The Devil Softly’ the album will contain contributions from My Bloody Valentine drummer Colm O’Ciosig.

The drummer was a long standing member of My Bloody Valentine, arguably the definitive shoegaze group. Loud to the point of actually being dangerous to the audience’s health, the band reformed last year for a series of stunning live shows.

My Bloody Valentine are set to curate a weekend’s entertainment for All Tomorrow’s Parties in December. The ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ event is set to be spectacular and will be topped off by a live set from the organisers.

Hope Sandoval & The Inventions’ new album was recorded in California and Ireland, and continues the group’s “laid-back, slowcore sound,” according to a band statement.

The band are due to announce details of a North American tour during the week, with a number of British and European dates to follow.

Hope Sandoval & The Inventions are due to release their new album ‘Through The Devil Softly’ on September 1st in the United States.
