mxmtoon will release new album ‘liminal space’ on November 1st.
The star began recording music in her bedroom, and quickly found a way of communicating with fans. Since then, her profile has exploded, with 2022’s ‘Rising’ taking mxmtoon to a new level.
CLASH spoke to her last year, and she reflected: “You’re such a fraction of the person that you’re going to be when you’re older…”
New album ‘liminal space’ continues her journey, with the songwriter commenting:
“How do you cope with life-altering change? Maybe you let yourself stew in the mess of emotions it elicits. Maybe you make an album about it called liminal space…”
The record deals with personal transition, as mxmtoon navigates adulthood, all within the glare of the internet. She expands, saying:
In the turmoil of the last two years since my second record, I’ve felt suspended in a transitory landscape that often at times felt endless. It’s easy to feel trapped in something you barely understand, and life has thrown an onslaught of questions towards me that I can only respond with, ‘I have no idea how to answer this.’ So, suspended in the unknown I wrote these songs. I tried to unravel how I’ve chosen to fulfil the roles I’ve been given in my own life, and at times how I’ve failed to keep up with them.
Out now, new single ‘the situation’ feat. Kero Kero Bonito and it’s a bubbling dose of hyper-pop thrills – but with a heart of gold, naturally. Playful and nuanced, you can check it out now.
