Brixton talent muva of Earth has shared new single ‘High’.
The South London vocalist seems to experience life on a different wavelength, with this depth of emotion transforming her work in the process.
Signed to Brownswood, this songwriter blends a fondness for vintage soul – everyone from Aretha to Erykah, via Marvin and D’Angelo – with jazz impulses, all pieced together from a UK-centric viewpoint.
Working with producer Stephen Wesley Holmes, her afro-spiritual world reaches a new potency with ‘High’. A lush, enchanting piece of songwriting, the lyrics move from personal manifestation to intuition via faith in her friends.
Out now on Brownswood Recordings, muva of Earth comments…
I wanted to make a song about being high on life. You may initially think that this is another song about DrugZ however my artistry will always intend to push my audience to new and greater ways of thinking… I remember writing ‘High’ in my bedroom whilst hanging out with my sister Angel. I had the hook in my mind for a while and would continue singing and writing more lyrics on my bus journeys, drawing from London and my own personal experience for inspiration… I remember thinking about some friends who i was having a disagreement with at the time (i didn’t really understand why we were arguing…)
I sang and shared the melody to Steve then he came up with the bassline in response to the vision of the track, together we experimented with a few different versions. Originally I wanted to make a song that explores conceptually the highs and lows of life – the previous demo was more theatrical. However I evolved to wanting to create a tune for Summer that will have everyone feeling uplifted. You can hear a bit of lyrics from the original version in the fade out 🙂
Tune in now.
