Epic stadium prog artists Muse have stated their intention to record a new soundtrack for a future James Bond movie.
While James Bond is the quintessential English spy, blending manners with deadly accuracy, the recent films have been devoid of British musical input. Where once Paul McCartney or Shirley Bassey could be relied upon to craft a stirring theme, no British act has graced the Bond movies for twenty years.
Duran Duran were the last group to record a Bond theme, but their record could soon be surpassed if Muse have their way. In a new interview the Teignmouth trio announce that they would love to record the main song in the next Bond film.
Speaking to BBC News drummer Dom Howard claimed that a Bond theme is “something we’d probably say yes to, or at least give it a good go”.
The news comes as Muse release their new album ‘The Resistance’. Built around stirring strings, the classically influenced album is possibly the band’s most outlandish to date, leading to comparisons with great soundtracks.
“Certainly some of our music fits with the James Bond vibe – and I think it could work,” Howard admitted.
Asked if Muse would consider a full film score, Howard pointed to singer Matt Bellamy’s previous experience in that area. “Matt (Bellamy) did the end credits for a film called The International” he stated.
“It’s not something we’ve done as a band, but we sometimes get asked for that kind of thing. It’s a bit weird in the Hollywood world, because you spend a lot time being told what to do and that’s a bit of a pain because we like to do what we want.”
“So, I think if you can find a director you can really relate to, and it’s a great film, and you know you can work well together, then it could be a possibility.”
