Muse On America

Prog trio aim to break big

Teignmouth stadium-prog trio Muse have spoken about their ambitions in the United States, claiming they wish to stand alongside rock greats.

Muse are nothing if not ambitious. Hailing from the South coast town of Teignmouth the band emerged as a promising trio, blending the vocal leaps of Thom Yorke and Jeff Buckley with stadium filling riffs.

Huge in almost every sense of the word, the Muse stage show took them to unimaginable heights. The band’s last album ‘Black Holes And Revelations’ was followed by a massive UK tour which climaxed with a two night stint at Wembley stadium.

Yet the band have been unable to replicate their success in the United States. While Muse have gold discs from almost every country on the globe, the Billboard charts remain tantalisingly out of their grasp.

However with their new album ‘The Resistance’ the group are expected to make headway in the world’s biggest music market.

In a recent interview with Spin magazine drummer Dominic Howard outlined the band’s position by saying “we’re the biggest band America doesn’t know anything about.”

Singer Matt Bellamy echoed his claims by explaining that Muse want to stand as one of the true rock greats. “We’d like to be remembered amongst the best bands in the history of rock. It’s necessary to have sustained success in this country for that to happen. But we’ve got a lot of work to do. We’re perceived differently here (in the United States.”

Bellamy also had some strong words for his contemporaries. “I’m not going to name names, but I look around and see a lot of hobbyists. We’ll go into the studio for months and tour for years. People are not living for it like we are. It’s not life and death for them.”

Muse are set to release their new album ‘The Resistance’ on September 14th.
