One of the biggest bands in Britain are set to return, with blue haired rock behemoths Muse set to release their new album ‘The Resistance’ in September.
Muse formed in Teignmouth, Devon. A group of friends from high school, the trio were driven by a love of great rock bombast and an urge to escape small town life.
Debut album ‘Showbiz’ caused a stir on its release in 1998. The band seemed to be ready to pick up Radiohead’s mantle as a group capable of making prog seem relevant, with their huge sound tailor made for stadiums.
Just under a decade later, Muse would fulfil this promise by selling out Wembley. Thousands upon thousands of fans gathered to witness a unique moment as the outcasts became the nations’s biggest group.
Matt Bellamy’s soaring voice combined with the group’s sheer muscular energy make Muse one of the most sensational live acts on the planet. The band captured the Wembley shows for posterity on the DVD ‘Haarp’ which offered a glimpse behind the scenes at the spectacular event.
Muse have not released a new album since ‘Black Holes And Revelations’ in 2006. The band have been working on new material for some time, retreating to a recording studio in Italy to escape the hype.
In a recent interview the band claimed to be inspired by classical composers on their new album. Hardly surprising, really, given the Wagnerian nature of their music. In the web chat with fans singer Matt Bellamy said “as a large percentage of the composition is orchestral, I have never wanted to collaborate with a string arranger as they may make it ‘theirs’.”
“So I have been arranging the orchestral elements myself which is taking a long time due to my inexperience with large scale scoring.”
“It should hopefully make the next album as the final three tracks.”
Muse are set to preview the album with a seven date UK tour. Taking in such enormous venues as the O2 Arena, the dates mark the return of one of Britain’s biggest bands. With amplifiers the size of mountains, Muse are sure to set ear drums a-blaze with some long awaited new material.
Muse are due to release their new album ‘The Resistance’ on September 14th.
